Theo found the casino easily enough. The directions were clear and well, the name was an easy tip off. He found it an amusing idea that he'd be applying for a job a casino. His father would disapprove, but his father wasn't here and it was something different from his actual life back home.

Jasper on his shoulder (Jake in his pocket as usual)he knocks on the door before opening it. "Hello?" he calls out.

"I don't know how to play that one," Theo says. "But, I can, as said, learn."

Jasper takes this point to hop off Theo's shoulder and skitter across the table.

"It's easy. It's a new game to me, too, and I picked it up fast. You'll be fine."

He looks at Jasper with a slightly curious expression, but doesn't look bothered.

"Okay. Good." He says, "Always happy to learn."

Nodding to the rat he says, "That one is Jasper." He flicks a finger "Get the ace of spades."

Jasper scurries over to the deck and noses through the cards for a moment before dragging out the ace of spades.

"And well trained, too. I can see that being useful."

Useful in what way, he's not sure yet. Maybe people would pay more to see the rat do tricks. It comes down to money, for him. Sure, an undead rat is kind of an unorthodox way to make money, but you do what you have to do.

"Not so much trained as in doing what I tell it to do. It has no actual ability to do anything like a living rat. It's... like a machine."

He almost says computer or robot, but he's not sure Meyer would know what that means.

"But they are useful as eyes."

He looks a little confused, mostly because he's never met an animal that was like a machine before. It was good that Theo avoided the computer or robot reference, because he really wouldn't have understood it.

"I'll expect him to keep an eye on cheaters, then."

Well, it's a dead animal he's running like a puppet. Which is why he refers to them as "it" and not with genders.

"It can do that. So can Jasper." There's a tiny head peeking from a pocket. "But I suppose we should get into more specifics, if you're willing to hire me?"

"I'll hire you for a trial period. Like I said before, though, I run a pretty tight ship. Fuck up too much, and you're out."

He doesn't say it to be mean, but he also doesn't have time for anything that might lose him money.

"Fair enough. What are your hours going to be? I'd like the night shift if possible."

He's nocturnal naturally.

"It's open from 5 in the afternoon until 2 in the morning. You can pick your hours."

[deadmanbusiness]

"I can take the late shift."

[recognize_an_opportunity]

"Good. Most people don't want it."

Meyer will, of course, be there all night.

"I'm nocturnal. It takes a ridiculous amount of coffee to keep me awake during the day. So, that would be great."

[recognize_an_opportunity]

"You can start tomorrow."

He doesn't waste any time. If Theo is any good at his job, he'll stick around. If not, or if he doesn't like it, Meyer can always hire someone else.

"You'll start with just dealing poker. You know how to do that, right?"

Theo holds up a finger. "And pay?"

"That depends on how successful we are. You'll get a flat hourly wage, and then tips. It's not going to make you rich, but it'll be enough to get by around here."

[deadmanbusiness]

"Fair enough. I'm not to worried about being made rich. Getting by around here is what I need."

[recognize_an_opportunity]

"If we start making good profits, there's always the opportunity for a raise."

He, himself, would love to make it rich, but that wasn't likely to happen around here.

Theo is ridiculously rich back home. He doesn't need to make it rich, his father owns countries.

"I won't turn that down."

[recognize_an_opportunity]

"Then we have a deal."

And he'll shake on it, to make it official.

"Deal."

And he'll shake as well!
